William Harkness is 2016-2017 President of the ISPN and is an Honorary Consultant Paediatric Neurosurgeon at The Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street in London, UK, where he has worked for over 25 years.
He developed the Epilepsy Surgery service in Children at Great Ormond Street but also in adults at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, following his joint appointment in 1991.
He became a full time Paediatric Neurosurgeon in 2015 and has been on the Council of the Society of British Neurological Surgeons for two terms of office and has been an advisor to NHS England. He has also been on Committees of the ILAE and held several positions on the Executive Board of the ISPN.
Professor Shlomi Constantini has been the director of the department of Pediatric Neurosurgery at
Dana Children’s Hospital since 1996 — The largest facility of this kind in the region. His department is the
largest tertiary facility in Israel and includes 2 senior neurosurgeons, a nurse practitioner and several
international trainees at any time. He is also the direction of the Israeli International Neurofibromatosis
After completing medical degree & neurosurgical residency, Shlomi received his training from Fred
Epstein at NYU, specializing in complex brain and spinal cord surgical challenges in children, focusing on
those that are most difficult to operate.
Professor Constantini is active internationally while serving roles in global organizations such as:
Immediate past president of IFNE, past general secretary of ISPN, and past Vice president of EANS.
Shlomi is intensely performing research and has published over 250 papers in peer-reviewed journals
and over 50 book chapters. Professor Constantini is a member of the editorial board of many journals.
It makes me special pleasure to participate at the upcoming ISPN course to be held in Minsk next November 29th -December 1st , 2017. Interaction will be the main objective of the course, involving as much as possible all participants, both from the Faculty and attendants in discussions aimed to clear up all our visions on relevant pediatric neurosurgery topics, such as hydrocephalus , craniosynostosis, pediatric head injury, Chiari malformation , spina bifida and come back, all of us, at our daily activity with concepts that may complete our way both in the decision making process as well as in the way we perform pediatric neurosurgical procedures. Minsk, the modern and beautiful capital of Belarus was choice to organize the 1st Congress of Eurasian
Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery. As a part of the Congress’s work is the convening of a session of the
official ISPN (International Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery) education continuing course.
The mission of the International Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery (ISPN) is the promotion of health in
our young patients. To support this we give our time, energy and dedication to support educational
During the International Continuing Course on Pediatric Neurosurgery there is a great exchange among
teachers from different countries and participants.
This also is a great chance to know other realities and to make new friendships.
Through the promotion of the course worldwide, we hope to build a common spirit among neurosurgeons
with pediatric interests, fostering the development of confidence, collaboration, and progress.

Dr. Kenichi Nishiyama trained as a neurosurgeon at University of Niigata, Japan, where he received his PhD in CSF physiology related to hydrocephalus. His clinical work has been mainly Pediatric Neurosurgery with a special interest in neuroendoscopic operations. His scientific interests are hydrocephalus, CSF disorders and technological development in image-based neurosurgery. Dr. Nishiyama is currently an Executive Board member of IFNE (Treasurer), a member of the Neuroendoscopy Committee of the WFNS and member of the Liaison Committee of ISPN. He has been active for instruction and supervision in educational courses throughout the world.
